BeDimensional introduces a new technology based on two-dimensional boron nitride crystals that make leather stronger, more durable, and thermoregulating. An innovation that opens new perspectives for the industry.
Genoa, 16 October 2025 – Leather meets advanced materials. BeDimensional, leading company in the industrial development of graphene and two-dimensional crystals, is introducing to the leather sector an innovative technology based on B-LEAF, a biocompatible and sustainable hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) crystal, only a few atoms thick, which enhances mechanical strength and heat management, making clothing and footwear more comfortable and durable.
The technology has been successfully implemented in an article presented for the first time at Lineapelle 2025 by the Italian tannery Maryam, which created a jacket using leathers treated with products developed by Riverchimica, a company specializing in chemical auxiliaries for tanning, integrating BeDimensional’s hexagonal boron nitride.
Technology that transforms leather
B-LEAF is an ultra-thin crystal, similar to graphene, with exceptional thermal and mechanical properties that can be directly integrated into the wet-end and finishing stages of the tanning process.
Independent laboratory tests have demonstrated that integrating this material significantly improves the leather’s ability to resist mechanical stress and dissipate heat. In detail:
- Greater mechanical strength:
- +85 % burst resistance
- +40 % thermosetting resistance
- Superior thermal comfort:
- Temperature reduction from the inside to the outside by 5 °C in 2 minutes
- –8 °C in just 30 seconds
- +64 % faster heat dispersion
These results show that B-LEAF-treated leather withstands the most intense stresses while offering unprecedented thermal comfort: an ideal solution for high-end sneakers, jackets, and leather accessories.
From Italian research to the global market
Developed and successfully integrated into the chemical auxiliaries used for retanning and finishing, B-LEAF is available in both liquid and powder formulations, offering tanneries maximum flexibility of use and full control over the desired characteristics of the finished product.
