- Squid Game
Squid Game has not only transformed how streamers see non-English language TV shows, but it has created a new format for the reality television competition series. Squid Game was a global sensation when it dropped in the year 2021, and the second season is finally here. In its latest episode, Player 456, Gi-hun has come back to play another round of the game show with deadly outcomes. But now he is planning on the game ending, as long as he can survive.
- Doctor Who is back
A holiday special this year, Doctor Who is the pairing of Ncuti Gatwa and Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan in the Christmas-themed Doctor Who: Joy To The World, which dropped on December 25. In this episode, Coughlan begins as a new character named Joy, who opens a secret doorway to the Time Hotel and has a chance encounter with the Doctor. Expect some heartstrings to be tugged in this show.
- Don’t Move?
Produced by Sam Raimi, Don’t Move is another popular movie to watch on the weekend. In the movie, one morning, a distraught woman wakes up and visits the monument of her departed children. Iris met Richard (Finn Wittrock), a good man who talks her off a cliff, as she is wondering about her life. Richard unexpectedly stabs Iris with a debilitating substance before they part ways. Richard, a serial killer, wants to murder and torture Iris. Iris flees into the jungle to hide because her body will shut down completely in 20 minutes. The phrase “don’t move” is relevant here since Iris needs to hide from Richard for a while for her body to restore its range of motion.
- The Guilty
The Guilty is one of the few successful one-location films from the COVID era. Talking about COVID, Antoine Fuqua filmed the scenes from a safe off-set location after contracting the virus a few days before the production. Jake Gyllenhaal plays LAPD officer Joe Baylor, who works the night shift at a contact center, in The Guilty, the American adaptation of a 2018 Danish movie. Joe was recently demoted following a dubious occurrence that happened while he was working.
Joe gets an odd call during his shift from Emily Lighton (Riley Keough), who says she was kidnapped. As the night goes on, Joe’s obsession with the case grows until he is unable to put it aside. He begins working on uncovering the murder.
- Fair Play
Another exciting movie, Fair Play is an ode to the erotic thrillers of the 1990s. Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich play Emily Meyers and Luke Edmunds, two teenage analysts in a Manhattan hedge fund, in the Chloe Domont-written and directed film Fair Play. In a secret relationship, Emily and Luke become engaged without telling their employer.
Emily, not Luke, is promoted after one of the portfolio managers is let go. Luke is first pleased with his soon-to-be spouse. But in this masterfully written examination of gender politics and power dynamics in a relationship, the adoration soon gives way to envy as the ruthless nature of the business takes control.
These are the five exciting movies and shows you cannot miss to watch on the weekends. Hopefully, you have found this post helpful!
