Born and raised in a mining town in India with a family history of Geologists, Survey & Planning Engineers, and Environmental Academics involved with India’s Mining School, Mr. Sam G. Bose got early exposure to the mining industry from his childhood. After spending more than a decade in the technology industry across a range of companies including ARM, Motorola, and Deloitte the entrepreneurial bug bit him and since then he has been involved with building technology companies.
In 2014 Sam founded IntelliSense.io with a vision to transform asset-intensive industries from analogue to the digital world by deploying Internet of Things (IOT) devices, cloud computing, and AI technologies to connect the physical world and drive data-based decision making for both humans and machines. The first industry where the organization deployed its technology, was in semiconductor manufacturing. It improved energy and operating efficiency in a semiconductor fabrication plant, which is mostly a fixed feed operation.
Soon Sam and his team realized IntelliSense.io technology adds the most value in operating environments where process variability is the norm and is a structural characteristic of the industry.
This eventually led the company to Mining where it found an industry built on geological uncertainty of the ore body and its characteristics. The impact of this uncertainty from the ore body touches every part of a mining operation. When coupled with inhospitable operating environments which increase environmental risk, it creates further uncertainty across the entire ore processing and metal recovery operation.
To make matters even more challenging, Mining operations collect a lot of granular data from sensors mounted on equipment and vehicles. However, there is a lot of noise in the data from real-world exposure which results in limited use of these datapoints in daily decision making.
Sam and his team soon realized that they have also found an industry that will play a strategic role in the Clean Energy Transition. Faced with increasing resource scarcity, spiralling demand, and an aging workforce it’s also an industry that is an ideal candidate for technology- driven transformation.
Helping in Mining Operations
Recently, IntelliSense.io has developed a portfolio of process optimization applications that transcends the mine and plant with a sole focus on increasing net metal production from existing operations undertaken in the most sustainable, efficient, and safe way.
The organization’s technology comprises real-time process optimisation software applications powered by digital twins of mining processes and equipment that predicts process performance, simulates future operating conditions, and recommends optimum ways to run the Mining operations at all times. The applications are used by operational decision-makers like metallurgists, mine planners, geoscientists and executed through front-line operators and dispatchers by integrating with control systems and dispatch systems enabling contextual decision making.

Sam believes, the greatest challenge of our generation is climate change and everyone urgently needs to find ways and means to reduce the earth’s climate degradation. Considering today’s fossil fuel powered energy system drives three quarters of global emissions, there is an urgent need for energy transition towards a renewable source. Recent geopolitical events shows the old fossil fuel powered system is a threat to energy security of the world. Moving from a fossil fuel-powered world to a renewable/clean energy-driven one will reduce CO2 emissions dramatically and bring energy independence to countries across the globe.
However, to deliver on our clean energy future, companies need a huge number of metals and materials which the world simply doesn’t have. This requires the creation of a new materials and metals value chain with a focus on improving the efficiency of metal extraction & refining and increasing metal recycling to create a new metal supply mix.
