There are many things you have to do when you run a business, and that’s the problem – there can feel as though there are too many things to do, but since they’re all hugely important, it becomes a never-ending and very stressful cycle of rushing through one thing just to get to the next and so on. There’s never any time to actually stop, breathe, and assess what you’re doing and how you’re doing it.
All of that can mean that your business isn’t as strong as it should be and perhaps it’s not growing as quickly as you would like it to, and because you’ve got so much to do, it all becomes far too much of a challenge. You get stuck where you are and that’s that – you might even decide it’s too much to deal with and call it a day.
Unless that’s really what you want to do, there are options, however, and you can make sure you get everything done in business and still have time to work on your growth and all your plans. With that in mind, let’s take a look at how you can do it so you can get started right away.
Use The Eisenhower Matrix
The Eisenhower Matrix might sound complicated or like something from the future, but it’s actually not too tricky to use and it can save you a lot of time and worry once you get used to ow it works. In essence, the Eisenhower Matrix is a way to prioritize your tasks by putting them not just in order of when they’re due, but working out how important and urgent each one is as well. Once you do that, it becomes a lot easier to organize the tasks and determine what needs to be done by when, and even who you can allocate each task to should you need to.
To start with, look at urgent and important tasks that need your immediate attention, and then continue with important but not urgent tasks – these are the ones you can plan out and think about more carefully. Next is urgent but not important tasks that you can delegate or perhaps even minimize to make them less of a chore. Finally, it’s tasks that are neither urgent not important, and these are the ones that can be postponed or even forgotten about altogether if you have to.
By using this matrix, you can focus more easily on the things that have to be done and reduce any chances of wasting your time on those things that might seem crucial at first, but that actually aren’t important at all. In that way, you’ll get everything done.
Use Airflow DAGs
Automation is a massive part of today’s business, or at least it should be if you want to be as successful as possible – many business owners find that they just can’t get everything done if they don’t use some kind of automation, and getting organized is precisely why this kind of thing was invented in the first place.
If you want to make sure you get everything done, you’ll need to ensure your workflows are as simple and effective as possible, and although you can do that yourself, it’s far easier and less time-consuming, not to mention the fact that it’ll get done in the right way, to use an Airflow DAG to do it for you. DAG stands for Directed Acyclic Graphs, and it represents a series of tasks that have to get done, putting them all in the right order for you and your team to follow. When you do follow what the DAG has designed for you, you’ll find it all makes a lot of sense and you should get everything done when and how you want to.
Maintain Your Work-Life Balance
It might seem like a strange idea that you need to have time off and take breaks if you want to get everything done in business, but it’s true – you do need to stop working if you want to tick everything off your to-do list. That’s because productivity isn’t about working and working until you can’t work anymore; all that’s going to do is cause you to be stressed and burn out, and then nothing will get done at all.
Instead, it’s far better to take regular breaks and incorporate some proper downtime into your schedule so you can relax and rejuvenate and get your energy back. The fact is that when you take these breaks and have some fun because you’re not at work, you’ll go back to your business with more enthusiasm and a clearer head, and that’s going to mean you get a lot more work done than if you just plowed on and tried to work through your exhaustion.
