The future lies with leaders who bring change and keep their momentum rolling to reach the top of the pyramid. Many leaders and entrepreneurs build companies around the narrative, “this is a problem, let’s find a solution.” However, only a few leaders innovate and create their solutions, and these leaders are driven to serve a bigger purpose.
Meet, the man of the hour, Daniel Kogan, Founder and CTO of ZiphyCare, who recognized an urgent and unfilled need to help the most vulnerable and disenfranchised.
Daniel’s Initial Days
Growing up in the former Soviet Union, Daniel received a top award in an international competition in physics at an early age. This achievement inspired him to pursue endeavors that serve a broad and international impact. After relocating to the United States to study software engineering at university, he began looking for ways that technology could meaningfully improve people’s lives.
As a career software developer and entrepreneur for the past 15 years, he has focused on technology innovation in the healthcare sector, founding four startups and pioneering early and novel applications of AI, machine learning, and decision-making algorithms.
He achieved great success leading his startups to the peak. One of his startups has been acquired by IBM and another by HealthGrades.
Impeccable Professional Pursuits
Daniel is extremely passionate about solving needs in the healthcare space and making complex technology exceptionally easy to use.
Within the digital health space, he was CTO of the Health 2.0 conference (sold to HIMMS) and has advised on, architected, and implemented a broad range of digital health innovations including intelligent doctor search and recommendation engines, medical ontologies, and predictive analytics.
He wears a badge of a proud founder of his current endeavor, ZiphyCare, which began in 2018, with his co-founder Dr. Rada Sumareva.
ZiphyCare is a unique remote physical examination platform that solves the problem of data-poor telehealth exams and overcomes barriers to quality healthcare for many vulnerable patient populations. The technology underlying the ZiphyCare platform brings to bear Dr. Sumareva’s extensive knowledge of patients and providers, as well as the utility and ease of use demanded by healthcare practitioners.
About ZiphyCare
ZiphyCare is set out to solve one of the most pernicious issues in healthcare today, Health Inequality.
It saw people in need, people who were not going to their doctor because they didn’t have one, or because of health, mobility, or other obstacles. These patients were waiting until their chronic illnesses became life-threatening emergencies, and going to the emergency room for treatment at a tremendous cost to their health and to the system.
It saw people in need, people who were not going to their doctor because they didn’t have one, or because of health, mobility, or other obstacles. These patients were waiting until their chronic illnesses became life-threatening emergencies, and going to the emergency room for treatment at a tremendous cost to their health and to the system.
Ironically, it developed very sophisticated technology tools to help a constituency who themselves were not using technology and didn’t necessarily have smartphones or the internet. It created an integrated medical platform that is housed in a portable kit and is accompanied by a trained medical assistant, the same one you would see at your doctor’s office, who is going to the patient, in their home.
Once there, the medical assistant connects the patient to a remote physician and then becomes the functional hands of the physician, taking blood pressure, looking into the patient’s throat, taking an ultrasound, or EKG, all directly connected to its platform, and transmitted live to the physician.
It developed and patented a platform that is based on well-tested, in-field clinical chronic conditions management programs, new flows for hybrid remote physical exam delivery, AI and ML-based models for patient risk mitigation, delivery of care logistics, and its PHR system optimized to store and retrieve all digital aspects of remote examination artifacts.
Better Service at Best Price
ZiphyCare’s system brings a medical assistant and remote doctor into the patient’s home, with hospital-grade diagnostic equipment and state-of-the-art, real-time data communication. It is coupled with an integrated records management system as well as dynamic scheduling.
The competitors’ systems use a nurse practitioner, on location, to perform exams and lack the broader essential integrations.
Hence, ZiphyCare provides better service at a lower cost than its competitors.
The Leader’s Voice
Every leader has a trait that they are known for. In Daniel’s long-standing IT career spamming over three decades, he has been able to prove himself while marking his presence as a power-packed leader.
Daniel pens, “Entering headlong into the excitement of the entrepreneurial age, where businesses succeed or fail based on what we in IT are able to do with available funds, teams, expertise, and deadlines. From the frenetic days of the early internet, through e-commerce and now large-scale team deployment, my operating philosophy has been to lead with gentleness, to always inspire humility, and never lead with fear or humiliation. Our teams need to trust each other and me, and this is the best way, from my perspective, to do it.”
He further lays emphasis on how he can be able to grow and develop as a leader. He believes in listening to and hearing from his team and the people they serve- valuable customers. He never ceases to be amazed by the ingenuity and innovation that empowers teams to deliver.
Daniel fondly expresses his love for working and leading mission-driven teams. For him, it’s almost like the air he breathes.
To New Possibilities and Prosperous Times
“We are seeing the future of healthcare unfold in front of us.”
This year, ZiphyCare expanded its business and is now providing patient care and supporting health networks in New York, New Jersey, and Florida. It has also successfully sent kits to Ukraine where they are being used, in conjunction with physicians in Israel, to treat patients who have seen their hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies destroyed. Similarly, last week, it received phone calls from clients in Florida who urgently needed its help after Hurricane Ian.
Blending healthcare and technology most efficiently, the organization has found a way to leverage technology to bring quality healthcare to those most in need and to reduce inequality in healthcare.
Wise Words
“Technology and business have become inseparable, and one of the advantages of technology is its power to improve the human condition. Every day, ZiphyCare is proving that a company can do well, by doing good.”
