In the past few weeks, Covid cases are increasing rapidly across Asia. A major number of cases have been registered in Singapore and Hong Kong two prime nations of Asia. As reported by the Hong Kong’s Centre for Health Protection, the virus is quite active. The health authorities have urged people to take new booster vaccinations.
Following a raise in Covid-19 in Southeast Asia, India has also witnessed fresh cases of Covid in recent weeks, with cases mostly from the Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerla. Fortunately, most of the cases are not serious and are milled.
The JN.1 sub-variant of the virus is considered to be a part of the surge in Asia, although it is already present in India. This is a descendant of the BA.2.86, also known as the Pirola strain, belonging to the Omicorn lineage. This strain can evade existing immunity and is easily transmissible.
A Quick Glance of JN.1
As mentioned early it is a sub-lineage of the Omicron variant. This virus is expected to have around mutations. It is not mean it is going to be more dangerous but it is finding for paths to evade the immune systems.
Signs and Symptoms of JN.1 Variant
Most infected people experience mild upper respiratory symptoms. Some common symptoms of this variant are fever, runny nose, headaches, weakness, sore throat and gastrointestinal related issues. Loss of appetite and nauseas are also some common symptoms.
