A veteran personality, Charles Murray is the CEO of PPi Technologies Group. He is an inventor and entrepreneur; who has successfully led the company with exemplary performance and a steadfast approach. Let’s learn more about the exciting journey of Charles and his company.
The Initial Days
In the mid-1990s, Charles was inspired to use his knowledge of plastics, which he acquired by working in the plastic shrink-bundling industry. His innovative mind had an aim for the future. He wanted to expand the use of plastic as a packaging material. At the time, Murray felt plastic was undervalued by American companies, which tended to use aluminium, glass, or paper products.
So in 1996, Sarasota, Florida started a new company with the theme “Join the Pouch Revolution”. The new company PROFILE® Packaging Inc. quickly grew into a global supplier of form-fill-seal pouch machines and then led the marketplace by offering total from beginning to end of line systems under the PPi Technologies GROUP banner name.
Founded in 1996, PPi Technologies Group, become a supplier of StandUp pouch and tray machines used to package food, drinks, pharma meditech, household products, and chemicals. His business model was based on more than 30 patents to give customers an advantage over competitors and to keep the U.S. pouch machine market ahead of global competition.
Furthermore, in 2004, it introduced alcohol into patented StandUp pouches under the Redi-2-DrinQ name. In 2015, it started the Penta 5usa wellness company to protect humans, animals, and the environment.
Leading with a Futuristic Eye and Visionary Mindset
PPi Technologies Group recognized in 2010 that engineering would face a shortage of labor. So, it introduced ControlSmart™ a patented minute-byminute AI control of your machines that allows us to look at results/problems from Sarasota and solve them in-house. Such an innovation increased its customer base.
Charles has always been passionate about sustainability. He cares about the environment and finds feasible solutions to reduce the plastic waste pollution. Looking ahead, the PGS Machinery is offering StandUp pouch machines running at speeds up to 600 pouches per minute and a future target is to run spouted pouches at a similar speed to replace plastic bottles, saves the environment, reduce the number of trucks on the road, and are part of the “circulatory” system to make plastics again after use.
Rising above and beyond all Setbacks
PPi Technologies Group faces challenges daily. Be it about plastic waste, bad press, staff shortages at its customers, and requirements for flexible machines as regards handling all types of pouches. It is involved in all aspects of a “self-operating machine” and a garbage collection system called “endless circularity and production of ECO-Methanol with the University of Florida and the remake plastic for use again while eliminating all future landfills for garbage”.
Victory Moment
The greatest achievement to date has been to patent and develop a 10acity™ hydrogen 2.5ppm infused water in a StandUp pouch. A global first! The hydrogen water assists folks with a dozen harmful diseases and has an incredible future.
Top Three Principles of a Leader
To be a Manager/Leader today requires following these three principles:
- Find staff that contributes their strength to your program to meet the demands of the marketplace and Millennials in particular.
- Ensure what you are offering can be done at the correct price (no dreams).
- Finally, make the office a fun relaxed part of the business. The new generation of workers are all computer/cell phone driven and want to be able to do their work in an “open office” environment. Productivity increases if workers understand the mission and leaders’ support to reach the goal.

A Home away from Home
Charles treats his team as his family. He knows each member of the team individually and interacts with them regularly. To instil team spirit among the members, PPiTG offers excellent amenities for specific activities, including a miniature golf course, table tennis, and a bistro with a coffee/tea machine available all day.
This brings the team together and creates a fun-filled and enlightening work environment.
Experiencing Failures along the way
Probably PPiTG’s biggest failure was not completing its plan to have one global pouch machine company operate in 6 countries to follow its present USA marketing plan. StandUp pouches would have twice the market share they have now and plastic garbage in both the ocean and in the cities would be less of a problem.
All About Successful Endeavours
Success is a difficult word to describe as it covers so many areas of a business or life. PPi Technologies Group is proud to be known as the number one StandUp pouch machine company in North and South America. It also has and is proud that it reduced alcohol content in drinks from 40% b/v to under 17% b/v thus helping prevent cancer. The company is pleased that in the wellness market it can offer mosquito/insect repellents that do not use DEET and protect humans and animals for up to 6 hours.
Charles pens Words of Wisdom on Leadership Style
Leadership style probably can be measured by the length of service from your employees. We have 50% plus with 10 years or more service and are satisfied with the direction of the company. We are known for our caring for abused children, helping the military wounded, and supporting missionaries around the world with their programs. Meaning we are not 100% profit-driven but worry about less privileged folks. Also, in my opinion one quality that every leader should possess is having a big entrepreneurial instinct.
The Ultimate Vision
Charles describes his vision in his last quarter of life is to leave a well-run company to his family led by his son and other family members working for PPi Technologies Group. The second is that it continues to lead with innovation in all areas of its business.
A Piece of Great Advice
Today, Managers have many jobs to look after in business. Multi management tasks is a growing skill for managers. One of the best pieces of advice received by Charles in recent times is looking for skilled people who are electronic game proficient. The future business will all be AI electronics.
