6 Tips for Improving Your Leadership Style

If you want to maximize your team’s potential, deliver higher standards, improve efficiency, and foster strong working relationships, you need to shift your focus from being a mere manager to becoming an exceptional leader. It’s not about bossing people around but about empowering them to reach their full potential, which not only benefits the company but also recognizes the individual’s unique contributions.

That’s the difference between being a manager and a leader, and if you want to be more of the latter than the former, tips can help you improve your work to be the best possible leader.

Discover Your Leadership Style

There are many different ways to be a leader, and there isn’t one right or wrong way to be a good leader. However, the freedom to uncover the type of leader you are and want to be is an exciting journey of personal growth. Look at your strengths and weaknesses. What do you do well? What is it that others respond to positively about you and how you work? What can you focus on, and what needs improvement? Once you know this, you can embark on a journey of meaningful improvements, leading your team to improved results.

Encourage Creativity

Nothing stifles creativity more than micromanaging or not letting people think for themselves, and this type of leadership won’t be as effective as standing back and letting people be creative. Sure you need rules in place for how you work and get the results, but allowing people to reach conclusions in their own way, injecting their personality and problem-solving qualities into what they do, can help you to really explore everything they’re capable of and the results you produce too. Nurturing creativity in employees and giving them the autonomy to make choices that benefit how they work and the results they need can help you steer people in the right direction and improve how you work.

Be A Role Model

You need to be able to be a person who others look up to for guidance and as someone to aspire to. A great leader will always bring the best out of others and be able to embody those qualities they bring out of others. Look to others you see as role models in your industry or your personal life, and look at how you can adapt that into what you do. How do they engage with others, what makes them special, and how do they stand out? Emulating these behaviours and qualities in a genuine way that works for your personality traits and the team you’re leading can help you elevate your standing as a respected and influential leader.

One of the effective ways to do this is using LinkedIn. You can find various blogs on the benefits utilising Linkedin for personal branding as a leader. For example, you can share your thought leadership content, engage with your network, and highlight your professional achievements on LinkedIn. It will showcase your leadership qualities and help inspire others in your industry.

Be Open To Improvements

Great leaders are the greatest because they always strive to be the best and be better and never think they know it all or can do it all. No one thinks they’re better than everyone. Be open and willing to learn from those around you, be it the people you are in charge of, your own managers and leaders, peers in our industry or other install blades such as Michael Kassan. Constantly looking at how you can better yourself, learn more, and pick up new tips, tricks, and techniques to integrate into what you can do can help you keep striving for more from yourself and those around you.

Be Compassionate

If being a great leader is something you aspire to be, then you need to be compassionate with everything you do. Berating people won’t get the results you need nor will it foster a good sense of community or entice others to perform their best for you. Instead, be compassionate when approached with issues or problems and support others to help rectify them, find workarounds and get to water they need to be trying to undermine everything they are doing or have done so far. Understand other people’s perspectives and be compassionate when dealing with people around you.

Be Passionate

You must be passionate about what you do, or else you will not be able to get anyone else on board. Great leaders are able to bring passion to their projects to get everyone on board and inspire others to bring their A-game and join you at your level. Extend this passion to the people behind the project, not just the project itself, to help you unlock more significant levels of support from your team and infuse this through everyone you need to help you and get them all on board.
