How To Market A Start-Up Business

When you’re running a start-up business, one of the hardest things is knowing how to market it. You could have the best business idea and concept in the world, but if you don’t have any way of marketing it and getting it in front of the people that matter most, it’s just not going to work. There are a myriad of marketing tactics you can use, whether this will be physical marketing, digital marketing or optimising your website to improve your search engine visibility. As a start-up you don’t necessarily have the biggest budgets in the world that will mean you’re able to spend lots on advertising. But this doesn’t mean you won’t be able to get word out about your business successfully. Keep on reading to find out more and get inspired.

Why is marketing so important?

Marketing is so important for your business as it is what will enable you to get the word out about your company and really enable others to find out about you and what you offer. Without successfully marketing your company, you won’t make sales, people won’t discover your company and it will ultimately end in your business either not being as successful as it could be, or having to fold as it’s not making money. When you market your business through both digital and physical methods you open yourself up to new customers and the opportunity to get seen by those that matter most. Get a promotional material and poster printer to help you with the physical things, while you can speak to an SEO expert about marketing yourself digitally.

What are some tactics to market your start-up business?

When it comes to marketing your start-up business, you need to think about things such as who your target audience is and what you want to spend. You don’t want to blow all your budget on something that won’t bring you sales in, so ensure you don’t go over what you can afford, and trial some methods before focusing fully on them. Some of the ways you can market your business include:

  • Utilise social media to the best of your ability

Social media is one of the most important things in this day and age when it comes to marketing your business. You need to be on these platforms to reach people of all ages and showcase what you offer. One thing to keep in mind is that you don’t necessarily need to be on every type of social media. Think about where your audience will be and how well they will relate to your content. For example, Instagram and TikTok are better for video and image-heavy content, whereas Linkedin is good for sharing business posts and X (formerly Twitter) for short news bites and reaching out to people.

  • Add a promo or incentive

Promotions are one of the best ways to market your startup. These are fantastic for drumming up business before you even open and can also attract a range of different types of customers. Once they’ve used the free trial, offer or incentive, they’re likely to stay on as long as you provide them with a service that is worth paying for and sticking around for. Ensure you continue to reward loyalty and run different promotions throughout the year.

  • Work on your branding

Your branding is essentially the foundation of your business and it’s so important you get it right. This means finding a logo that you love and that really speaks volumes without having to say anything at all. A good logo needs to represent your brand image, be recognizable and easily remembered and also give a little insight into what you’re about. You should look into colour theories to ensure you choose relatable colours and find a font that fits in with what you do. For example, a more corporate business would need something plain and formal, whereas a fun product could play with more colours and a more elaborate font.

These are just a few things you can do that can help you market a start-up business in no time at all. Whether you’re launching soon, or have already launched but aren’t having too much luck in getting the word out there, you’ll find this should help you improve. What are some top tips you have for marketing a start-up business? Let us know in the comments below, we’d love to hear from you.
