5 Proven Strategies to Boost Employee Productivity and Reduce Absenteeism in Your Business

Boosting employee productivity is important for business success, and by doing so, you’re likely to reduce absenteeism as a result.

Looking after your staff, providing a work-life balance for everyone, and listening to employee concerns will help to improve productivity levels and happiness in the workplace. That, in turn, will hopefully help reduce the frequency of those who are absent from work, as well as improve overall retention of staff.

Here are five proven strategies that will help boost employee productivity and reduce absenteeism in your business.

Cultivate a positive and open workplace culture

A positive and open workplace culture is something that can do a great deal in helping boost employee productivity and happiness in the workplace.

Make sure that your employees feel like they can communicate at any time with their peers and those who manage them. This can help to build trust between employees, and it also makes them feel valued by the company.

A positive culture and environment should also be encouraged, so make it an inclusive one with any toxicity stamped out immediately.

Support employee well-being

Supporting your employees’ wellbeing is an important one because if you’re not looking after their mental health, that can take a knock to the productivity levels within the workforce as a whole.

With that being said, make sure to implement wellness programs, offer mental health support where you can, and encourage breaks so that your staff are always looking after themselves.

Encourage a work-life balance so that there’s flexibility within their working week. A helpful absence management system is also useful to put in place to monitor employee attendance and to use this information to see if they’re happy at work.

Invest in professional development

Professional development is definitely something you should be investing in for your business and its employees.

Whether that’s training existing staff or upskilling staff so that they can take on more work or move into a new position within the company.

Clear career paths should be outlined, and these should be realistic. You should also be transparent on what you’re able to deliver with development and what opportunities might not be possible in terms of the employee’s own expectations and wants.

Set clear goals and provide the right tools

Goal-setting is a great way to improve the success and productivity of those in the workplace. Defining clear goals helps to communicate what’s expected of your teams and staff members individually. It also helps provide direction and a sense of purpose for staff members.

Leverage technology where you can, equipping your teams with the right digital tools, whether it be project management and communication platforms, to automating tasks for efficiency.

Recognize and reward those who work hard

It’s good to try and recognize and reward those who are working hard for the company. Acknowledging achievements, whether it’s via the company newsletter or with rewards provided via their employee benefits package, there are lots of ways to give back to your employees for their efforts.
